Inspired by the dance TV shows of the 1960s, writer and director John Waters created this movie about overweight Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) who wants to become the star dancer on an afternoon TV dance show. Tracy wins the dance competition and a starring spot on the "Corny Collins Show." Now, Tracy becomes a teen hero, and she speaks out for integration, which is the cause she believes in. Standing in her way is spoiled Amber Von Tussle (Colleen Fitzpatrick), but, by story's end, Tracy has won her point on integration and has beaten out Amber for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963.
