  Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale) lost his leg during the war, and now he and his wife Alice (Gretchen Mol) and sons William (Logan Lerman) and Mark (Benjamin Petry) are about to lose their Arizona ranch to the expanding Southern Pacific Railroad. Dan sees a way out of his financial problems when he is offered $200 to transport stagecoach robber Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to Contention City where he is to catch the 3:10 train on the way to his hanging at the Yuma prison. Also serving with Dan on the assignment are Tucker (Kevin Durand) who burned down Ben's barn, railroad boss Grayson Butterfield (Dallas Roberts), Pinkerton agent Byron McElroy (Peter Fonda), and Dan's teenage son William. As Dan and Ben match wits along the trek, they also encounter problems with Apaches and Ben's gang–led by Charlie Prince (Ben Foster)–on what turns out to be a dangerous journey to catch the 3:10 to Yuma. Although Frank keeps a low profile, police officer Detective Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) spots him at a boxing match where Frank is wearing a chinchilla coat–given to him by his wife Eva (Lymari Nadal)–and he is sitting in front of Mafia boss Dominic Cattano (Armand Assante). Roberts is an honest cop, but his department is corrupt, and Detective Trupo (Josh Brolin) works to compromise Frank's integrity. Violence erupts in the attempt to pin down Lucas, and during the confrontation between Roberts and Trupo only one will emerge victorious. The film received two Academy Award nominations including Best Supporting Actress (Ruby Dee).

  U.S. Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is a rising star in his political party, but, when his research assistant/mistress is murdered, buried secrets are uncovered. When Collins and fellow reporter Della Frye (Rachel McAdams) attempt to find the facts behind the murder, they discover a political-corporate conspiracy involving a security company taking in billions of dollars from the War on Terror.
