  This Dr. Seuss tale is brought to the screen in the story of 10-year-old Bart Collins (Tommy Rettig) who much prefers playing baseball and spending time with his dog than practicing the piano. One night, Bart has a nightmare in which he stumbles into the castle of his piano teacher (Hans Conried)–now named Dr. T.–who has kidnapped 500 young boys and is forcing them to practice the piano 24 hours a day, all week long. Even worse, Bart discovers that Dr. T. has hypnotized Bart's mother (Mary Healy), and she is now his helpmate. Bart is determined to put an end to Dr. T.'s "school" and to save his mother, and with help from a plumber (Peter Lind Hayes), Bart succeeds in rescuing them all.

They meet three girls–Susan (Jane Powell), Carol (Debbie Reynolds), and Ginger (Ann Miller). Hi-jinks follow, and the sailors end up in the brig, even though Danny's father (Walter Pidgeon) is an admiral! But, romance is in the air, and all ends well amidst jokes, dancing, and songs including "Sometimes I'm Happy," "I Know that You Know," and "Hallelujah."

  Bushrod Gentry (Robert Taylor) is a trapper in the 18th century, and Mary Cherne (Eleanor Parker) is determined to gain his love. He can't escape her persistent pursuit, and a shotgun wedding ensues. But, Bushrod takes off to the North Country, and Mary is not far behind. They continue to rescue each other in this funny film, but the treatment of the Native Americans in that era is not acceptable today. Good song: "The Higher Up the Berry Tree, the Sweeter Grow the Berries."

At 17, Patti feels that she is old enough to be dating and becomes interested in another resort guest Demi Armendez (Ricardo Montalban). But, Patti's friend Valerie (Phyllis Kirk) is also attracted to Demi and does not stand by and encourage a romance between Patti and Demi. Problems develop, but by story's end all ends happily. This was Debbie Reynolds' second movie, and her rendition of the song "Abba Dabba Honeymoon" hit the charts.
