Diamond makes one last attempt to bring the boss to justice by soliciting the help of the boss's girlfriend Susan Lowell (Jean Wallace) whom Diamond also loves. Matters heat up, and, as in life, the distinction between good and bad is not always clear.

Good Technicolor scenery and direction make this "High Noon"-style film enjoyable. It is also thought to be a statement concerning "McCarthyism," the Communist witch-hunt conducted by Senator Joe McCarthy during this time period that affected the movie industry.

Next, Louisa marries inventor Larry (Paul Newman) who becomes wealthy and dies. Then, she marries business tycoon Rod (Robert Mitchum) who retires, becomes a farmer, and is killed by a bull. Finally, Louisa marries entertainer Jerry (Gene Kelly), and he becomes a star and is crushed to death by a mob of his fans. All died trying to make Louisa happy, and now she believes that the money they made is cursed.
