It doesn't take long for Tom to be faced with the decision of whether or not to solve his problems in the same manner that Jimmy does.

After the attack, their small town of Hamlin outside of San Francisco is cut off from the rest of the world as radiation takes its toll, and Carol tries to help her children cope with the tragedy. Jane Alexander received an Oscar nomination.
