People start to believe when the monster heads down the East coast of the U.S. and invades New York from the sea. The monster is finally dealt with on Coney Island. Good early special effects and a glimmer of what would lie ahead in the monster world (e.g. Godzilla).

With police in pursuit, the almost indestructible Butcher kills anyone who gets in his way–until he is disintegrated by high tension wires at the end of the story.

Dr. Deemer (Leo G. Carroll) is working on a new serum that causes animals to grow to enormous sizes. Dr. Matt Hastings (John Agar) investigates the assistant's death and has questions about it. Meanwhile, the tarantula is continuing to grow and is now consuming cattle and even humans. Deemer's new assistant, Stephanie "Steve" Clayton (Mara Corday), arrives at the lab, and she and Hastings finally figure out what is happening. They call in the Air Force, which drops napalm on the tarantula and kills the beast–but, not before it attacks Deemer's house and kills him.
