Manou (Ettore Manni) arrives in a small French village where he catches the eye of schoolteacher Mademoiselle (Jeanne Moreau), an anti-social, sexually disturbed woman. When a rash of crimes begins–fires and animal poisonings, for example–Manou is blamed, especially after Mademoiselle seduces him and then claims he raped her. But we, and Manou's son, know who is behind the mischief. Different and disturbing.
