Gambler Brady Hawkes (Kenny Rogers) takes to the road to visit his son. Along the way, he meets Billy Montana (Bruce Boxleitner), an Easterner who thinks he knows all about cards but learns a few lessons from Brady. Nonetheless, they team up, and their adventures include coming to the aid of a woman (Lee Purcell) in distress as they head to Yuma. Four sequels follow.
