  I love this movie. The story is true as are the characters. It's hard to believe that this woman who was told she didn't qualify to be a missionary to China could accomplish such a mission. She was truly a great woman. Considered an ugly duckling by some, she still manages to find love with a Eurasian soldier.

  This is the film adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's Gothic novel about tragic Rachel (Olivia de Havilland) who is suspected of being a murderess. Richard Burton won the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for his role of Philip Ashley, Rachel's young cousin who loves and suspects her at the same time. Burton also received an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor.

When Paul rides the horse very fast, he is able to predict the outcome of real horse races, and the family becomes wealthy. But wealth is fleeting for the family that likes to spend money, and Paul is egged on to faster and faster riding to predict more and more winners until tragedy strikes and lessons are learned. Based on a short story by D.H. Lawrence, the film is well directed and acted.
