Errol Flynn, in his last epic adventure, excels in his role of the famous lover, Don Juan. After Don Juan's indiscreet womanizing, in an attempt to rehabilitate him, Queen Margaret (Viveca Lindfors) offers him the position of fencing instructor at the royal fencing academy. While there, Don Juan learns that the evil Duke de Loerea (Robert Douglas) is plotting to take over the throne, and–aided by Leporello (Alan Hale), Don Serafino (Fortunio Bonanova), and Don Sebastian (Jerry Austin)–Don Juan foils the plans. The film won an Academy Award for Best Costumes.

This historical drama focuses on the relationship between Queen Elizabeth (Bette Davis) and Sir Walter Raleigh (Richard Todd). Meanwhile, he falls in love with lady-in-waiting Beth Throgmorton (Joan Collins), and they secretly wed. When the Queen learns about the marriage, she feels betrayed and imprisons Raleigh in the Tower of London but later relents, frees him, and provides support for his trip across the ocean.
