Battlefield surgeons Hawkeye Pierce (Donald Sutherland), Trapper John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), and Duke Forrest (Tom Skerritt) relieve the horrors of war through numerous pranks aimed at chief nurse Hot Lips Houlihan (Sally Kellerman) and Maj. Frank Burns (Richard Duvall). Ring Lardner Jr. won the Oscar for his screenplay, and four nominations were received, including Best Picture, Director, and Actress in a Supporting Role (Kellerman).
