Key moments in the lives of nine women are told in a series of 10-minute vignettes. The women include prisoner Sandra (Elpidia Carrillo) waiting for her children to visit, ex-wife Lorna (Amy Brenneman) attending her ex-husband's wife's funeral, mother and daughter Maggie and Maria (Glenn Close and Dakota Fanning) having a picnic at a graveside, and Ruth who is thinking about having an affair. Other stories involve Diana (Robin Wright Penn) running into an old boyfriend, cancer patient Camilla (Kathy Baker) preparing for surgery, teenage Samantha (Amanda Seyfried) caring for her invalid father, and Sonia (Holly Hunter) who is upset with her cheating boyfriend. Good acting.

When the other passengers start to disappear, one-by-one, Claire is determined to uncover the facts behind the mystery–even when she becomes suspicious that Eric holds the key to what is happening.
