Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is involved in robbing a toy store when his partner is killed, and, in the process of escaping from the police, Harry poses as an actor at a casting call. He is flown to Los Angeles to play a detective, and real-life private detective Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) is assigned as his acting coach. Henson) recognizes the problems in her family and tries to get them moving in the right direction. Charlotte has her own solution to the problems: She buys a vintage Cadillac convertible and invites Alice to join her on a cross-country trip during which they will have time away from their families to figure out life's problems.
