Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is involved in robbing a toy store when his partner is killed, and, in the process of escaping from the police, Harry poses as an actor at a casting call. He is flown to Los Angeles to play a detective, and real-life private detective Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) is assigned as his acting coach. At one of his first parties, Harry runs into his Indiana high school friend, Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), and tells her that he is a detective–a lie that pulls him into the middle of a murder investigation. 2 User Reviews

William is married to Jillian (KaDee Strickland) and is plotting to take over the Cartwright Construction Company, which Charlotte controls. Meanwhile, Charlotte's other daughter Pam (Taraji P. Henson) recognizes the problems in her family and tries to get them moving in the right direction. Charlotte has her own solution to the problems: She buys a vintage Cadillac convertible and invites Alice to join her on a cross-country trip during which they will have time away from their families to figure out life's problems.
