Jackie Chan and Jet Li take on dual roles in this first film in which they work together. The story is about nerdy, South Boston teenager Jason Tripitikas (Michael Angarano) who finds the Monkey King's (Jet Li) magic stick in a pawn shop owned by Old Hop (Jackie Chan) and is transported back in time to ancient China. In China, Jason is trained by martial artists Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and Silent Monk (Jet Li) and then sets out with a band of warriors to free the Monkey King who has been imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou).

Songs are by Elton John and Tim Rice.
