Beowulf fathers a son with Grendel's Mother, and now, years later, he is destined to fight to the death his dragon son.

Will learns that he is a 15-year-old Bosnian refugee, Miro (Rafi Gavron), and visits the apartment where he meets Miro's mother, Amira (Juliette Binoche), who ekes out a living as a seamstress. They form a friendship, but more problems follow.

He reflects on the state of his life, which also includes his not-so-kind father (Paul Newman) and his daughter (Danielle Panabaker), while his own life remains in limbo. Despite the despair, there is a message of love and hope that permeates this story.
