After a long train ride, the horses arrive in a mining town, and Lucky is adopted by orphaned stable boy Richard (Chase Moore). When the town's residents are forced to escape from enemy fire, Lucky is abandoned by Richard. Lucky flees into the nearby desert where he meets other animals and a young Bushman girl Nyka (Maria Geelbooi) who teach him lessons in how to survive in the wild environment.
