Her Miami-based company sends executive Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) to New Ulm, Minnesota, to restructure a manufacturing plant. Lucy arrives in New Ulm–not dressed for the winter weather–ready to do her job and return quickly to warm Miami. When her new secretary Blanche Gunderson (Siobhan Fallon) sets Lucy up for a date with local union representative Ted Mitchell (Harry Connick Jr.), their initial meeting is anything but good. However, Ted is the one who Lucy must work with in restructuring the company, and they do become close as they get to know each other. Now, the New Ulm manufacturing plant is closed by Lucy's company, and she may decide to stay in New Ulm with Ted and begin life anew–and, in the process, help New Ulm start up its own plant.
