Mickey King (Caine) is a fiction writer who is asked to ghost-write for the autobiography of retired actor–and, possibly, mobster–Preston Gilbert (Mickey Rooney). After Preston is murdered, Mickey decides to solve the mystery as a method of finishing his story. Good acting, especially by Rooney.
