The women on Mars have been killed in a nuclear war, and Martian Princess Marcuzan (Marilyn Hanold), along with Dr. Nader (Lou Cutell), sets out to kidnap Earth's women. In the process, they attack a space capsule carrying android pilot Capt. Frank "Frankenstein" Saunders who is actually a NASA robot in space that is programmed to ward off space invaders. Frank is hit by a ray-gun and badly maimed. His creator, Dr. Adam Steele (James Karen), arrives on the scene to find and protect Frank who is killing in self defense while the aliens are capturing Puerto Rico's women.

Vincent Bruce (Warren Beatty) is an occupational therapist in a mental hospital whose life is ruined when he becomes involved with a patient, Lilith (Jean Seberg). Meanwhile, another patient, Stephen (Peter Fonda), commits suicide because Lilith will not pay attention to him. When Vincent realizes that he is in danger of losing his own sanity, he seeks help from psychiatrists. But, will it be too late? This is Gene Hackman's film debut.
