Australians, who are competitive runners and friends, Frank (Mel Gibson) and Archy (Mark Lee) enlist in the army to fight during World War I and end up in Gallipoli fighting the Turks. Unfortunately, disasters await, in part, because of poor planning by the commanders in charge of the campaign to take control of the Dardanelles away from the Turks. This is an insightful look at the philosophy of war.
