  Lucas "Luke" Jackson (Paul Newman), a prisoner on a chain gang, refuses to crack under pressure as is shown in a fight with fellow inmate Dragline (George Kennedy) when Luke is beaten badly but still refuses to give up. His rebellious attitude earns him his "Cool Hand Luke" title. But, problems arise for Luke when he realizes that he must now live up to the expectations that other prisoners have for him. Kennedy won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in this film, and Newman was nominated for Best Actor. Policeman: "What we've got here is failure to communicate."

Harrah (Mitchum), who is embroiled in a land war between the evil Bart Jason (Ed Asner) and Kevin MacDonald (R.G. Armstrong). Follow-up to "Rio Bravo."

When grisly murders result, two inept detectives investigate. The "Airplane"-style spoof doesn't work. Not at all.

Santee wants to prove his innocence, and Jody goes along with Santee to track down the outlaw gang. They find the gang but suffer tragedy in the process.
