Based (loosely) on a true story, a short story by Herman Melvill, and finally a novel, this is the story of Oberlus (Everett McGill), a sailor with a deformed face. After he had been made fun of and shunned by other sailors, he ended up as an outcast on an island. When others are washed ashore, he takes out his bitterness and hatred for the human race on them.
