Written by Stephen King, this is the story of high school teacher Johnny Smith (Christopher Walken) who is badly injured while in a car with his girlfriend, Sarah Bracknell (Brooke Adams). Upon awakening from a five-year coma, Johnny discovers that he can see people's futures just by touching them. Johnny's life has changed, and he tries to move on. His physician, Dr. Sam Weizak (Herbert Lom), believes that Johnny has not only the ability to predict the future but to change it as well. When Johnny shakes the hand of political candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen), Johnny's ability is tested when he sees Stillson as a future President of the United States in the middle of a nuclear holocaust.
