Hippie poet Ted Whitley (Bud Cort) spends his time in 1974 on the boardwalk at Venice Beach, California, where he delivers his poetry inspirations. Linda does not share Ted's interest, and soon Ted resorts to using obscene phone calls and stalking–all of which terrorize Linda–to make Linda forever his.
