Bulldog Drummond (John Howard) must rescue his fiancee Phyllis Claverling (Louise Campbell) from kidnappers Mikhail Valdin (J. Carroll Naish) and his sister, Erena Soldanis (Helen Freeman). The kidnappers have already murdered an American millionaire, and Bulldog might be their next victim. The trail leads to a haunted house in a remote fishing village where Bulldog is captured. Bulldog's life is definitely in danger–until Scotland Yard's Col. Nielson (John Barrymore) disguises himself as a fisherman and frees Bulldog and Phyllis.

When Roderick (Ray Milland) and his sister, Pamela (Ruth Hussey), buy and move into an old mansion, they experience strange occurrences. The previous owner is Stella's grandfather (Donald Crisp) who seems to know something but does not discuss it.
