Joe meets Betty Logan (Evelyn Keyes) whose father was framed by Farnsworth, falls in love with her, and straightens out Farnsworth's debt to his investors. This inspires Julia and Tony to plot the killing of "Farnsworth" once again. The film received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Actor, Director, and Supporting Actor (Gleason) and won Oscars for Writing (original story and screenplay).
