This is the story of alcoholic writer Henry Chinasky (Mickey Rourke) who hangs around in a neighborhood bar where barfly Willa (Faye Dunaway) works. Willa also drinks too much and is thought to be more than a little bit crazy. Henry and Faye set off on a weird relationship involving irrational behavior, and Henry moves in with her. Later, book publisher Tully Sorenson (Alice Krige) becomes interested in Henry and wants to publish his writings. As she tries to help Henry out of his drinking problems, they end up in bed together. A cat fight at the bar between Wanda and Fay ends with Henry toasting the patrons with a drink. Written by Charles Bukowski and based on his own experiences.
