Cave biologist Dr. Nicolai (Marcel Iures) and his partner, Katherine (Lena Headey), make plans to explore a massive cave system that lies under a 13th-century church. They hire a team of scuba divers to swim and climb through the caves, some of which are beneath the water. It doesn't take long before the divers realize that unknown creatures lurk in the depths and that their lives are in peril. Now, the deadly game turns into a race for survival as they try to escape from the caves.

Monte's girlfriend "Countess" Martine (Isabella Rossellini) tries to convince him to take a regular job, but Monte still yearns for the scant wide-open space that remains. When a cowboy is laid off, Monte deals with one last confrontation.
