Charles (Clive Owen) and Lucinda (Jennifer Aniston) are in a hotel room about to begin an adulterous affair when a stranger (Vincent Cassel) bursts into the room, knocks Charles unconscious, and rapes Lucinda. Because both are married to others, Charles and Lucinda decide to not report the crime to the police–a mistake that leads to blackmail and more danger in the near future.
