In this third film of the "K-9" series, Dooley (James Belushi) and his police dog, Jerry Lee, are preparing to retire from the San Diego Police Department. In need of money, Dooley attempts to breed Jerry Lee and falls for the female dog's owner, Catherine (Barbara Tyson). Dooley takes on a new job as a private eye, and his first job is to clear his own name so that he can be assured of his pension from the L.A.P.D.–a job that will not prove easy because Jerry Lee has swallowed a microchip that the murdering thief, Charles Thyer (Christopher Shyer), needs for his other chips to work. As in the previous stories, Jerry Lee comes to Dooley's rescue in both his professional and personal lives.
