  American physics professor Alva Jesper (Gary Cooper) is called on for a mission by the O.S.S. in the last months of World War II. He arrives in Europe and learns from former colleague Dr. Katerin Lodor (Helen Thimig) that a former acquaintance, atomic scientist Dr. Giovanni Polda (Vladimir Sokoloff), is working in Italy on plans for an atomic bomb for the Nazis. Then, Loder is killed, and Jesper travels to Italy where he links up with resistance fighters Pinkie and Gina (Robert Alda and Lilli Palmer). He does meet with Polda and learns about the Nazi plans to build an atomic bomb. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Gina, but now must find a way to escape from the Nazis.

  After his friend Lord Henry Wotton (George Sanders) talks him into it, London aristocrat Dorian Gray (Hurd Hatfield) commissions artist Basil Hallward (Lowell Gilmore) to paint his portrait. When the picture is completed, Gray makes a pact with the Devil to stay eternally young. Years go by, and others grow older, but Gray seems to get younger. Meanwhile, the portrait is hidden away, but it shows Gray's face growing old and disfigured. He murders Hallward to ensure that his secret will not be told and then falls in love with Hallward's niece Gladys (Donna Reed). But, Gladys' ex-boyfriend David (Peter Lawford), whose Aunt Sibyl committed suicide when Gray betrayed her, is suspicious of Gray and sets out to reveal his true, evil nature. Gray: "To get back my youth, I'd do anything in the world–except get up early, take exercise, or be respectable." Angela Lansbury received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

  Tim (Tyrone Power), a U.S. pilot, flew planes to Canada and then ferried them to Britain before the U.S.'s entrance into World War II, thus helping arm Britain. Tim has a cocky attitude and does not appreciate the war effort. While in London, he meets ex-girlfriend Carol (Betty Grable), and she isn't pleased with his cavalier attitude about the war. To show his dedication, he joins the R.A.F. Great combat footage, which earned an Oscar nomination for Special Effects. One of Power's better efforts.
