Advertising executive Bob Munro (Robin Williams) is scheduled for a meeting in Colorado at the same time he has scheduled a family vacation in Hawaii with his wife Jamie (Cheryl Hines) and kids–teenager Cassie (JoJo) and pre-teen Carl (Josh Hutcherson). Bob finds a solution: a cross-country trip in an oversized RV. The family embarks on the camping trip, but problems arise; in fact, they erupt in the form of the septic tank's contents. As homeless campers, the Gornickes home-school their kids at the campground. The snooty Munros try to avoid the Gornickes, but they keep crossing paths, and, by story's end, the Gornickes have taught the Munros a valuable lesson in family relationships.
