It proves to be a difficult trek–especially when they meet up with a Mescalero Apache hunting party and must form an alliance to fend off the attack.

Meanwhile, Union General Buford (Sam Elliott) attacks Confederate troops trying to get into position. The story uses both Union and Confederate perspectives to provide a good interpretation of the famous Battle of Gettysburg that claimed 53,000 lives. Both the acting and battle scenes are excellent.
