The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men   1952     3 stars  User Rating      N/R, 83 min.
Genre: Family / Adventure
Director: Ken Annakin
Cast: Richard Todd, Joan Rice, Peter Finch, James Hayter, James Robertson Justice, Martita Hunt, Hubert Gregg, Michael Hordern, Bill Owen, Anthony Eustrel, Reginald Tate, Elton Hayes, Patrick Barr, Anthony Forwood, Hal Osmond

Disney Studios made this Robin Hood story into a very enjoyable film, and filming in England adds to the strength of the story. Robin Hood (Richard Todd) devotes his life to helping the poor during the oppressive Prince John's (Hubert Gregg) reign when the Sheriff of Nottingham (Peter Finch) reeks havoc on the citizens. This is the story of Robin Hood, his merrie men, and his true love Maid Marian (Joan Rice) and their efforts to preserve the throne for King Richard (Patrick Barr).    1 User Review

The Way Ahead   1944     3 stars    N/R, 115 min.
Genre: Drama
aka: The Immortal Battalion

Director: Carol Reed
Cast: David Niven, Stanley Holloway, James Donald, John Laurie, Jimmy Hanley, William Hartnell, Raymond Huntley, Leslie Dwyer, Hugh Burden, Reginald Tate

This excellent film follows a group of recruits as they evolve from civilians into a well-trained team of soldiers. They understand why the training was necessary when they are sent to North Africa during World War II. Director Reed had joined the Army and served in the role of making documentaries. Likewise, David Niven, an officer, was a motivator for this film.
