In this sequel to "Chinatown," detective Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) finds himself in the middle of an illegal land-development scheme that also involves murder. It all begins when Gittes is hired by another Jake–L.A. realtor tycoon Jake Berman (Harvey Keitel)–who suspects his wife Kitty (Meg Tilly) of cheating on him. They plot to have Berman walk in on Kitty and her lover while Gittes records the conversation from the next room.
