In the post-apocalyptic world, America has turned into a wasteland, and Eli (Denzel Washington) believes that he has received divine revelation. Eli is on a long and perilous journey across America to reach the West Coast because he believes that God told him to go there. Along the way, Eli encounters Carnegie (Gary Oldman) who wants to obtain Eli's Bible in order to control the masses, and he will stop at nothing to obtain it. Carnegie's adopted daughter Solara (Mila Kunis) joins Eli on his quest to fulfill his destiny and promises to help Eli defeat the evil Carnegie.
