While in flight, the crew of a Canadian passenger plane comes down with ptomaine poisoning, and the only one who can save the plane is World War II flying ace Ted Stryker (Dana Andrews). But, Stryker is suffering from trauma brought on from a fatal mission during the war and fears flying. But wait, a ground controller, Treleaven (Sterling Hayden), offers full radio support, and Stryker takes the controls to land the plane.
