This sets off a chain of events. Mike really needs money now, and his life changes dramatically. He meets promoters Jerry Weiss (Joe Mantegna) and Marty Brown (Ricky Jay) and action star Chet Frank (Tim Allen), and Mike finally agrees to fight in the ring to get the money he needs to pay off his debts.
