When they are discovered by record producer Jackal Johnson (Vince Corazza), he wants the girls to have a different look, different songs, and a different name. Galleria becomes caught up in the fame while she is insistent on keeping the Cheetahs together the way they were before Jackal. Galleria (Raven) wants the group to practice, practice, practice; Chanel (Adrienne Bailon) finds a new friend in fellow singer Marisol (Belinda); Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan) has her eye on a hot dancer (Golan Yosef); and Aqua (Kiely Williams) decides that fashion is her new passion. They get lost and then discover that Melanie's 10-year-old brother Trey (Eshaya Draper) and his pet pig have stowed away in the van, and, of course, they total the van. They get a ride with show-tune singing Doug (Donny Osmond) and his college-age daughter Wendy (Molly Ephraim) and end up on a tour bus where karaoke is the order of the day. By story's end, father and daughter form a bond as lessons are learned during their unique adventure.

The cast of voices for the animals–which includes Norm MacDonald, Julie Kavner, Reni Santoni, Garry Shandling, Paul Reubens, Albert Brooks, Chris Rock, and Gilbert Gottfried–is a highlight as the animals communicate with the good doctor (Eddie Murphy) who learned as a child to talk to the animals.

The plot revolves around Queen (Halle Berry) who was the daughter of a slave, Easter (Jasmine Guy), and plantation owner James Jackson Jr. (Tim Daly). Queen is light skinned and tries to pass for a White person, but in the aftermath of the Civil War, she faces many obstacles along the way.
