  While teaching a course on the psychology of fears, college Professor Edward Derek (Ramy Zada) wants his students to understand their fears. He invites his students into his home one stormy night so that they will experience fear as they talk about it. The students are told to tell stories of events that scared them, and a terrifying night ensues.

  Liberal political cartoonist Duffy Bergman (Gene Wilder) falls in love with and marries a chef, Meg (Christine Lahti). All goes well–for awhile–until Duffy thinks about having a baby, and Meg wants her career. They drift apart, and Duffy finds another "love of his life," Daphne (Mary Stuart Masterson). Only after Daphne becomes pregnant does Duffy realize how much Meg means to him.

  DJ Jason (LL Cool J) has spent jail time for drugs and now is in debt to drug dealer Danny (Ramy Zada). Jason is approached by LA detective Caldwell (Howard Hesseman) to work undercover at one of Danny's clubs to get the goods on Danny. But along comes Danny's girlfriend (Victoria Dillard) who talks Jason into stealing money from Danny. She then takes off with the money, and Danny takes off after Jason. Get the picture? Yes, Caldwell is on the take from Danny.

  European horror master Dario Argento teams up with George A. Romero ("Night of the Living Dead") to present two adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe's tales: "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" and "The Black Cat." The latter is the better of the two, though both reduce the stories to plenty of gore. Previously made by Roger Corman in 1962 ("Tales of Terror" with Vincent Price).
