  Jacqueline Bisset takes on the title role of Anna Karenina in Leo Tolstoy's story. Anna is married to Russian nobleman Karenin (Paul Scofield) when she meets and falls in love with a dashing Russian, Count Vronsky (Christopher Reeve). They try to keep their love a secret, but, when it becomes known, many problems ensue in Anna's personal life as well as her public life when people cannot accept her immoral behavior. Anna has given up everything for the man she loves, and this could lead to tragic results.

  Based on Joseph Conrad's novel, this film's story is set in 1890s' London and involves a group of anarchists planning to destroy society. When Verloc is told to prove himself, the order sets off a chain of events that results in the violent act of trying to bomb the Greenwich Observatory.
