  This story revolves around two sailors, Joe Brady (Gene Kelly) and Clarence Doolittle (Frank Sinatra), on shore leave who help aspiring singer Susan Abbott (Kathryn Grayson) get an audition. Love blooms between Joe and Susan. The highlight of this film is Kelly's dance with the animated mouse, Jerry. Among the nominations this film received for Academy Awards were Best Picture, Actor (Gene Kelly), Cinematography, and Song ("I Fall in Love Too Easily"). It won for Best Musical Score.

  Princess Veronica (Hedy Lamarr) visits New York searching for reporter Paul MacMillan (Warner Anderson) who she became enamored with when he visited her country. At the Eaton Hotel, Veronica meets bellboy Jimmy Dobson and insists that he escort her around the city while she tracks down Paul. Billy regularly visits invalid Leslie Odell (June Allyson) who becomes jealous when he tells her about Veronica. Billy and Veronica visit a bar that gets raided, and Veronica is put in jail. Paul does appear to bail her out, and she learns that her father, the king, has died and that she is now the queen. By story's end, Valerie and Paul are a couple, and Jimmy and Leslie have discovered their love for each other.
