  This classic comedic tale is about the predicament of Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) who discovers that his old maid aunts have been poisoning lonely old men and burying them in the basement. Adding to the quirky household is Uncle Teddy (John Alexander) who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt. Cary Grant excels in his role of the nephew who must bring sense to the chaos.   "Jigger" Pine (Richard Whorf) forms a jazz band, and the trumpeter Leo's (Jack Carson) wife Ginger "Character" Powell (Priscilla Lane) is their singer. They wait for that big break that doesn't come and spend their time riding the trains from one small gig to another. On one train ride they meet gangster Del Davis (Lloyd Nolan) who offers the band a job at his New Jersey roadhouse. They begin performing for Davis and employ sultry Kay (Betty Field) as their singer–and, too late, learn how mobster's moll Kay can tear the band apart.

  I loved this movie. Fun and whimsical. If you enjoy May Robson and Ronald Reagan, you will love this relaxing B & W comedy.

Daly bows out of the stage production, and, instead, arranges for Busby Berkeley to stage a hit show on Broadway starring the students. Songs include "Love is on the Air Tonight," Moonlight on the Campus," and "Old King Cole." This film marks the film debut of Fred Waring and the Lane sisters.
