Gentle Dr. Kessler (Bela Lugosi) lives with his adult daughter Virginia (Polly Ann Young) and household staff in his large mansion. But she did not die, and the butler (Clarence Muse) has kept her locked away until she recovers from her amnesia that resulted from the accident. She routinely gets out, and when she looks in the doctor's window, he is put in a trance and kills people he runs across. Cheap, but the good direction helps keep an eerie atmosphere.

While trying to escape, she is captured by a foe of the Sheik. When Ahmed saves her, she realizes her love for him.

Thomas Watson (Henry Fonda) is Bell's assistant, and they succeed in inventing the telephone but then must fight Western Union for the patent rights.
