Based on Louis de Bernieres' best-selling novel, this story begins when Mandras (Christian Bale) leaves his fiancee, Pelagia (Penelope Cruz), behind and goes off to fight the Greeks during World War II. Before long, Captain Antonio Corelli (Nicolas Cage) arrives on the scene and is quartered in the home of Pelagia's father, Dr. Iannis (John Hurt). The result: love at first sight between Pelagia and Captain Corelli–despite more than a few problems.
