Donna (Meryl Streep) is a single mother who runs an inn on a Greek island. Her 20-year-old daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), is about to be married and wants the father she has never known to walk her down the aisle. Donna is not sure who the father is, but Sophie has found three names in Donna's old diary and has secretly invited Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth), and Bill Austin (Stellan Skarsgard) to the wedding. Meanwhile, Donna's friends from her 1970s' band "Donna and the Dynamos" Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters) have come to the island for the festivities. When Sam, Harry, and Bill arrive, they are told to not reveal themselves to Donna, and a comedy of errors ensues–amidst 22 ABBA songs.
