  John and Catherine McCormick (Bruce Davison and Mimi Rogers) move to Vancouver with their sons–16-year-old Angus and 9-year-old Silas (Jesse Bradford and Joel Palmer). John teaches his sons the basic skills of sailing and survival, and, one day, Angus brings his Labrador Retriever, Yellow, along for a sailing trip with John. All goes well until a storm strikes, and the boat is capsized. Angus and Yellow wash ashore and try to find their way home. While John and Catherine work with the Coast Guard to find Angus, the two companions fight for survival in the wilderness.
