This Robin Hood-like swashbuckler follows a French bandit, Cartouche (Jean-Paul Belmondo), who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. He meets and falls in love with gypsy Venus (Claudia Cardinale) who eventually sacrifices her life to save him. He then has a grand old time avenging her death.
