Saw this movie only once. I've looked for years to find the name of this movie. No one I know has ever seen the movie. I've always liked Jill, but I did find this movie to be a bit bizarre. I cant say the movie is boring or dull or that it had any redeeming factors. It was like watching a train wreck , you couldn't look away.

The Pied Piper   1972     2 and a half stars    G, 90 min.

This is a chilling version of the Grimm Brothers' story about the mysterious piper (Donovan) who is hired to rid the squalid town of Hamelin of rats in the 14th century. When payment is not made, he leads the children out of town. Despite its 1972 "G" rating, this movie is not for children.

Supposedly based on a true story, this is the tale of a young woman (Phoebe Cates) who shows up in an English village during the early 1800s speaking a strange language. She is taken in by the Worralls (Jim Broadbent and Wendy Hughes) whose butler, Frexos (Kevin Kline) convinces them to have her tried for vagrancy. During the trial, she uses pantomime to convince the magistrate that her name is "Caraboo" and that she is a princess who was kidnapped by pirates but managed to escape by swimming ashore. The Worralls take her back to their home, but a reporter, Gutch (Stephen Rea), still thinks she is a fraud and investigates to find out whether or not Caraboo is telling the truth. Fun, with a good cast and story.
