Their cramped lifestyle leads Nick to buy a fixer-upper home in the suburbs. It turns out that real-estate agent Chuck Mitchell (John C. McGinley) has conned Nick into buying a house loaded with disasters waiting to happen. Some of the problems include a leaky roof, termites, dry rot, and clogged pipes–and it doesn't take long for Nick to realize that Chuck is the only available contractor, which leaves Nick completely at Chuck's mercy.
